Thoughtful Thursday

Sorry for the glare... I took this picture from a magazine that was left on a table in my break room at work..  But I have to say... I totally agree!! Why must we all keep up appearances?  I want my house to be clean yes.. but it doesn't need to be sparkling.. Right now our TV room is a mess.. but my boys are happy and playing.. when they are old and moved out.. My house will be clean again :)

Projects...

So I'm trying to be creative.. :) I have this wall that is small in size that is in our front room..  So I've decided to create a wall of framed quotes. I've already found some frames from the DI for cheap.. Only one is super cool.. but gotta start somewhere :)  But I've found some quotes that are already cutesy that I LOVE but also quotes I love but can't find any cutesy art for it.. so I created some..

Here are two that I've started! I'm kinda proud of them :)

Back to work on some more :) hopefully they print out well!

Thoughtful Thursday

Lately I've been thinking about where my niche is.. what are my talents?  I know I'm a mother but I've been feeling like I shouldn't be wasting my talents (if I have any).. I know there's a scripture about not wasting what Heavenly Father has given you.. but I'm spacing out on what it is. BUT my beautiful sister Sarah "pin"ed a quote and I love it!! It pretty much sums it up..

See? Perfect...

So that quote and this one:

..got me thinking that I need to explore being creative... explore using my talents... explore what my talents are! And I know what talents aren't just being crafty.. but there are musical talents, personality talents, people talents (like being a people person and being a person everyone can turn to.. I think that's an awesome talent!!)

I've made a list in my head.. and eventually I want to do a whole post on what I am planning to do to explore all of this but for now I leave you with these questions to think about...

Are you wasting your talents?  Do you know what talents and abilities Heavenly Father blessed you with? If you haven't figured them out (like me), then what is your next step to figuring it out?

issue of the day- Modesty

If you want your children to be modest.. teach them young. If you let your daughter wear bikinis and short shorts/skirts they will find it harder to be modest when they go through the temple. And yeah prom might be a special occasion but if you let them wear a dress that's immodest then you're teaching her that its okay to be immodest "for special occasions". Then she'll turn into a lady that wears a sports bra and super short shorts to work out in using the excuse: "its okay I'm working out"...

Reminds me of a scripture... Proverbs 22:6

"Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it..."

To get off my soapbox... and to tie in a more religious aspect.. Teaching and leading by example.. Don't get me wrong I'm not a perfect parent or person in any way... Here's something that helps the point... This is from a talk by Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley called "These, Our Little Ones."

The Endurance of Example

Behold your little ones, and teach them. I need not remind you that your example will do more than anything else in impressing upon their minds a pattern of life. It is always interesting to meet the children of old friends and to find in another generation the ways of their fathers and mothers.

The story is told that in ancient Rome a group of women were, with vanity, showing their jewels one to another. Among them was Cornelia, the mother of two boys. One of the women said to her, “And where are your jewels?” To which Cornelia responded, pointing to her sons, “These are my jewels.” Under her tutelage and walking after the virtues of her life, they grew to become Gaius and Tiberius Gracchus—the Gracchi, as they were called—two of the most persuasive and effective reformers in Roman history. For as long as they are remembered and spoken of, the mother who reared them after the manner of her own life will be remembered and spoken of with praise also.

May I return again to the words of Brigham Young: “Let it be your constant care that the children that God has so kindly given you are taught in their early youth the importance of the oracles of God, and the beauty of the principles of our holy religion, that when they grow to the years of man and womanhood they may always cherish a tender regard for them and never forsake the truth.”4

I recognize that there are parents who, notwithstanding an outpouring of love and a diligent and faithful effort to teach them, see their children grow in a contrary manner and weep while their wayward sons and daughters willfully pursue courses of tragic consequence. For such I have great sympathy, and to them I am wont to quote the words of Ezekiel: “The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son” (Ezekiel 18:20).

But such is the exception rather than the rule. Nor does the exception justify others of us from making every effort in showing forth love, example, and correct precept in the rearing of those for whom God has given us sacred responsibility.

Nor let us ever forget the need to respect these, our little ones. Under the revealed word of the Lord, we know they are children of God as we are children of God, deserving of that respect which comes of knowledge of that eternal principle. In fact, the Lord made it clear that unless we develop in our own lives that purity, that lack of guile, that innocence of evil, we cannot enter into His presence. Declared He, “Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3).

Channing Pollock once wrote these interesting and provocative words: “Contemplating the adolescence through which we scorned the wrong, some of us must wish … that we could be born old, and grow younger and cleaner and ever simpler and more innocent, until at last, with the white souls of little children, we lay us down to eternal sleep.”5

Overall this probably doesn't make any sense.. but reading this has made me realize how important it is to live a life that I want my kids to live.. to live a life that can be used as an example to them later in their life that they can turn to and say "see.. mom never wavered"..  I want my kids to always know that I tried my best to live the Gospel and to live as righteously as I could. I do not want my kids to look back and say "well when we were young you never made us pray, fast or be modest."  I want them to realize how important living the Gospel was to me so that it will be just as important to them!

now I can "want" all I want.. (haha) but it'll never happen if I don't make it happen. It is going to be my goal this month to make our home better.  These goals will be personal for now.. but I will keep track on here to keep myself in line :)

I hope no one was offended by this.  But do know that it is my opinions and everyone is entitled to their opinions.
